Congratulations to Kim Schau for taking the Gold Medal in the Masters Men Over 81kg division at the Judo Saskatchewan Provinacial Championships for 2012.  This is the 3rd year Kim has taken the First Place and we wish him luck at the National Championships.  See the full results at

Saskatoon Well Being: Our Favorite for March

The third issue of Saskatoon Well Being Magazine is available right now, and each month we like to share with you, our favorite article from the current issue.  This month features articles from mental health and positivity at work to childhood nutrition.  We chose the article captioned on the cover: Why Your Diet Isn't Working (page 22), because this is a subject that we can all relate to.  No matter what you think you know about diet and weight management, remember to always read and expect to learn something you didn't know before.  When it comes to diet and nutrition, information is infinite, there is always something new to be learned.

Saturday Morning ZUMBA

You wanted it, you got it; we asked if you wanted more ZUMBA, and we gave you more ZUMBA!  Due to overwhelming demand for ZUMBA Dance, we will be adding a third class to the Group Fitness Schedule. A huge hand goes out to Cara-Lee for helping make Zumba one of the most attended classes we have ever had on the Group Schedule.  Cara-Lee is new this year to the Group Fitness Instructor position, but has proven herself and continued to improve her skills every day. The third class will be running every Saturday from 11:00am - 12:00pm starting this Saturday, March 10th.

Weekend ZUMBA Class

So far this New Year we've had record setting attendance in all the Group Fitness classes!  We owe that mainly to our great instructors for always keeping their classes fresh and motivating.  We have had an incredible response to the Monday and Wednesday evening Zumba Classes.  Zumba Instructor, Cara Lee is the newest addition to our Group Fitness Squad and has commanded full attendance in every single class.  Due to the overwhelming popularity of Zumba, we are planning to add an additional Class to the schedule on Saturday mornings, following the morning Bootcamp.  If you think you would be interested in a Saturday Zumba Class, please message us on our Facebook Page, email us at or call (306) 244-6413

9 Ways To Make Carbs Work For You

Try Low Glycemic, Complex Carbs. 
This paragraph could have been titled Control Your Insulin because that’s essentially what you’re trying to do here. Carbs coming from foods like yams, sweet and red potatoes, whole grains, oatmeal and brown rice are made of long chains of sugar and are digested far more slowly than higher glycemic and, oftentimes, more processed carbs like white bread, instant rice, candy, fries and many cereals like Cheerios and Corn Flakes. Because lower glycemic carbs take longer to break down, not only do they make you feel more satisfied and full, but they also help maintain more consistent blood glucose levels in your body—the key to fat burning.

The more quickly carbs enter your bloodstream, like with high glycemic foods, the more your body responds by flooding itself with insulin. Large, inconsistent spikes in insulin fatigue you and inhibit your body’s fat storing processes, which can lead to health problems over the long run.
