The Saskatoon Roller Derby League Has a New Home

Fitness Focus is proud to be the official gym of the Saskatoon Roller Derby League.  The Saskatoon Roller Derby League (SRDL) is a not-for-profit athletic organization, which provides an equal-opportunity for all women to engage in a sport that promotes athleticism and fitness, female empowerment, and community involvement.  As they approach the upcoming season, you can expect to see more and more of the Roller Derby girls around the gym.


Purevision Racing teams up with Fitness Focus

For the second year Fitness Focus will be sponsoring The Purevision Race Team.  #69 will be owning the track out at The Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in the Super Late Model Class.

Group Fitness Over The Summer

Just because it's finally nice outside doesn't mean it's time to let go of all the progess you've made from Fall through Spring.  The Group Fitness Studio is still packed with a great class lineup, so when fall rolls around again you don't have to be "that person" wishing you hadn't traded all your workouts for a patio during the summer.

It may take a little extra motivation to make that trip to the gym over the summer when you are trying to take advantade of every minute of sun we get.  Keeping your focus will result in the difference between reaching and maintaining your goals in the gym and in your overall fitness, versus starting from the bottom when the weather turns cold and you decide you've taken enough steps in the opposite direction.

Everyone gets busy during the summer months, but don't lose sight of the importance of getting at least 30 minutes of exercise per day.

Finding Balance With Your Bosu

Incorporating a Bosu Ball into your weight routine in the gym is a great way to strengthen your overall stability and core.  But if you integrate too much Bosu use into your workout plan, you could be unintentionsally neglecting other important areas of your training.  Its no secret that one thing most people want to achieve from their time invested in the gym is a nicer stomach, but is that the only thing?

Think of it this way, say for your arm workout, you're doing bicep curls or tricep extensions standing on a Bosu.  How much of your focus and energy is directed at the exercise itself and how much of your focus and energy is direct at staying on the Bosu?  Naturally your arm workout is going to take a backseat.  If you're focus is on the Bosu, not only will you not be able to lift an appropriate ammount of weight to reach the full benefits of the exercise, but your technique will likely suffer.

This isn't to say a Bosu Ball is detrimental or a bad training device, in fact for functional or athletic training it can be the perfect multi-use training tool.  But for the average gym-goer, you will have much more success in the gym and find your "six pack" abs with proper technique and a well balanced routine.
